Mission

The mission and vision of the School of Professional Studies online nursing programs is to offer a liberal arts-based educational experience which will guide students in attaining the knowledge, skills, and values essential for professional nurse leaders and managers, including the ability to make sound judgments and address the health needs of diverse cultural groups.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Nursing Organizational Leadership Advanced Certificate program will be able to:

  1. Analyze how policies impact the structure and financing of healthcare, nursing organizations, and health outcomes.
  2. Advocate and mentor the professional nurse as a member and leader of interprofessional teams.
  3. Design a nursing organization business plan utilizing budgeting, cost-benefit analysis, and marketing principles.

The Program

Across the nation, nurses have been encouraged to develop the knowledge, leadership abilities, and interpersonal skills beyond what is learned at the bachelor’s degree level to improve the healthcare system. The Institute of Medicine’s Future of Nursing report recommends that the future nurses gain proficiency in competencies such as team leadership, systems thinking, decision-making, and quality improvement.

The Online Advanced Certificate in Nursing Organizational Leadership is an 18-credit program that gives nurses the additional knowledge and practice needed to expand their expertise and assume positions of leadership.

In addition to a practicum component, the program explores content in:

  • Leading and managing healthcare disparities and underserved populations
  • Nursing quality and safety strategic planning
  • Transformational nursing leadership in community, regulation, and healthcare organizations
