Mission

The mission and vision of the School of Professional Studies online nursing programs is to offer a liberal arts-based educational experience which will guide students in attaining the knowledge, skills, and values essential for professional nurse leaders and managers, including the ability to make sound judgments and address the health needs of diverse cultural groups.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Nursing Education Advanced Certificate program will be able to:

  1. Integrate program planning and curriculum development based on a comprehensive assessment of learning theories, styles, and needs of diverse learners.
  2. Synthesize pedagogical strategies and best practices in the design, implementation, and evaluation of nursing curricula.
  3. Implement current and emerging technologies in the education of nursing students, practicing nurses, and faculty to support lifelong learning.

The Program

Nurse educators play a crucial role in helping nurses gain the expertise needed to meet the challenges of the evolving healthcare system.  Their presence also ensures that our nation’s nursing schools are always at maximum student capacity. According to AACN’s 2018-2019 Enrollment and Graduations in Baccalaureate and Graduate Programs in Nursing, U.S. nursing schools turned away 75,029 qualified applicants from nursing programs in 2018 due to an insufficient number of issues including a shortage of faculty. Additionally, hospital and medical centers have identified a need for more nurse educators to enhance the level of instruction to nursing students, new nurses, and ongoing needs for professional staff development.

The online Advanced Certificate in Nursing Education is an 18-credit program that addresses these challenges by giving nurses the additional knowledge and practice needed to expand their expertise as nurse educators.

In addition to a practicum component, the program explores content in:

  • Curriculum and program planning
  • Measurement and evaluation
  • Pedagogical strategies and best practices

Admissions Criteria

To qualify for admission to the Advanced Certificate in Nursing Education, applicants must meet the following criteria:
